One fine Monday morning, was not too busy at work and I thought let's do some research on how to organise my jewelleries. Probably because I spent yet another Saturday night trying to untangle a necklace from an earring :o)
I checked my favourite decor website, Shelterness for some ideas and it had quite a few jewellery storage ideas from very creative people. After going through few blogs, I came up with a design that would suite my collection of Jewelleries. The basic principle was to hang the necklaces, bangles and earrings on the wall so it's on display and easy reach. It was going to be another weekend project!!!
I wanted something that I could hang both necklace and bangles, and I didn't want to use hooks. I've seen others use drawer knobs and I loved that idea. I was browsing in the IKEA website I spotted these drawer knobs that were perfect for what I had in mind. I liked the clear finish as it will blend in with the jewelleries and won't stand out as much and most importantly they were $2.99 a pack which is just under 50c each and they come with screws!
Planning the layout was very hard! I kept changing my mind on how I want the Jewelleries displayed. Finally I was happy with the layout and on to measuring and marking where I need to drill through the plywood for screws.
Once I've drilled the holes for the screws I lined the plywood with a fabric I bought from Lincraft. I bought half a meter around $9 and it was sufficient to cover the plywood. I love fabric as it blends in with my wall colour and has a bit of shine too! Very pretty!
Attaching the knobs was quite exciting as it was all coming together. I attached rubber coated hooks for earrings and the drawer knobs for bangles and necklaces. I also attached a ribbon on the side so I can clip this big flower for hair I bought sometime ago, but yet to wear. We all have those, dont we? ;)
Yeap it's quite tall, 1.2m to be exact and 1/2m in width. I wanted to hang it next to the full length mirror but changed my mind and hung it next to the dresser.
And here we are! My very own very pretty DIY Jewellery Organiser!!!!
How much did it cost me?
Let's see,
Plywood 600mm x 1200mm $14.95
Fabric 1/2m $8.97
Satta knobs 4 packs $11.96
Rubber coated hooks $2.20
Around $38!
Totally worth it!!!!!!!!! :):):)
